SALES AF. WEEKLY BRIEF
All facts. No fluff.
NEWS DESK
This week’s reading: AI deployment boundaries, chip capacity and the business case behind the buzz. Our take: bring the architecture, finance and buying teams into the conversation before promising the timeline.
THE BIG DEAL
Your delivery model belongs in discovery
On October 16, Reuters reported that China proposed controls covering 23 AI technologies. Overseas deployment involving restricted technology would be covered; API, website, app and SaaS access would be excluded. Consultation closes November 15, with registration requirements already applying to certain transfers.
Sales AF take: Qualify local deployment requirements early. Have legal and technical teams assess the specific transaction before committing.
QUICK HITS
Demand does not guarantee delivery. Reuters reported October 15 that ASML expects chip-tool supply to fall short of demand in 2027 and 2028. Our take: Ask infrastructure suppliers which capacity is committed and what could move the delivery date. Read the reporting
Finance wants a seat at the AI table. Ramp said it raised $1.85 billion at a $60 billion valuation, Reuters reported October 15. It is also expanding into AI-spending monitoring and model-cost optimization. Our take: Include the person accountable for usage costs in discovery. Read the reporting
AI + SALES
Show the outcome. Then explain the AI.
Publicis reported 5% organic net revenue growth on October 13. Management attributed part of its momentum to demand for AI-powered marketing products and services. That is the company’s explanation, not a separately measured AI revenue contribution. Read the company release
Try this next week: Pick one promised outcome. Document today’s baseline, the customer’s target and who will validate the result. “Uses AI” still needs a business case.
WORTH A DEMO
Axonius: make the inventories disagree
For asset visibility, Axonius says its platform brings devices, identities, SaaS and cloud assets into a unified model. Treat that as a vendor claim to test. See the platform. Its Gartner Peer Insights listing displayed 4.6/5 across 131 ratings when checked October 16; peer reviews are not a Gartner endorsement.
Demo test: Bring conflicting CMDB, endpoint and cloud records. Ask the team to explain matching, missing assets and stale records. Measure connector effort and refresh timing. This recommendation covers inventory visibility, not its remediation or orchestration features.
Who should skip it: Teams without a meaningful inventory-reconciliation problem or an owner for improving the data. A prettier dashboard is not the acceptance criterion.
BEFORE YOU GO
Ask one buyer: “What would have to be true for you to call this deployment successful 90 days after launch?” Put the answer in the next demo plan.
