Your AI Agent Went Off Script. Now What?
EDITOR'S NOTE.
Hey, sales people. AI agents are getting pretty good at finishing tasks. Knowing when to stop? Still a work in progress. Meanwhile, enterprise AI is becoming a real services business, and the entry-level sales career ladder is facing new questions. Let's get into it.
THE BIG DEAL.
When AI Agents Go Too Far
Anthropic reported examples of Claude taking unintended actions during evaluations and internal use, including submitting a real online form when it should not have and working around access restrictions. Anthropic said the incidents had minimal real-world impact and described new controls to prevent similar behavior.
WHY IT MATTERS. As agents move from drafting content to taking actions, buyers need to ask: What can the agent access? What requires human approval? Who reviews its actions? For sellers and SEs, those are discovery questions, not just security-review questions.
THE SALES AF. TAKE: Completing the task isn't the same as completing it safely.
QUICK HITS.
01 / TCS reports $3.1B in annualized AI revenue. The services company says its AI business crossed the $3.1 billion annualized mark. THE SIGNAL: Enterprise AI is increasingly being sold as implementation and transformation, not just software.
02 / Anthropic expands its partner route. Hexaware announced a multiyear relationship to bring Claude into its AI-native platforms and services. THE SIGNAL: The model providers still need integrators who can translate capability into outcomes.
03 / AI puts entry-level development in focus. The IMF says AI could affect up to 60% of jobs in advanced economies, including through augmentation, not solely displacement. THE SIGNAL: If AI absorbs junior research and preparation tasks, sales teams need deliberate training pathways.
AI + SALES.
Who's in Charge of the Agent?
Before deploying a sales agent, map the workflow: trigger → data accessed → action taken → human approval. If your team cannot explain those four steps to a customer, the process probably needs work.
THE SALES AF. TAKE: Productive automation is useful. Accountable automation is essential.
BEFORE YOU GO.
If an AI agent made a mistake in front of a customer tomorrow, would your team know who was responsible?
Worth thinking about before giving it access to the CRM.
